If you really want to experience an area, you have to live like a local. New York is a pretty tourist-y place, and I can guarantee you that the tourist areas are often wastes of time and money. If you truly want to experience the true side of New York, find those hidden gem restaurants. Shop at the local fashion districts. Climb up onto a roof and bask in the lights of New York’s skyline. Live like a real New-Yorker.
Don’t fall into the tourist traps!
I agree with you, if you really want to enjoy a city or country, you really have to go and do what locals do and where they really love, tourist spots are all the same wherever you go, there is absolutely nothing genuine or unique that reflects the place you are visiting, just take a local bus and disappear to a local neighborhood, you will find so much more than in those tourist traps.
I am definitely doing this on my next trip abroad, I am so bored at all the tourist joints and all the lines and not to mention the stress and costs..
yeah, when you go on a vacation, you want too relax and unwind, the whole point of a vacation is to feel not like your at work, but when you go to these tourist it definitely feels like work with all the stress that comes along with. you should definitely do yourself a favor and skip these lines and hangout at a local cafe in the middle of no where.
